The European Conference on Mobility Management (ECOMM) 2009 took place in the AENEAS city Donostia – San Sebastián in the Basque Country in Spain. AENEAS was represented by four of its partners: the City of Donostia – San Sebastián, Salzburg AG, Munich Transportation Company (MVG) and Rupprecht Consult. Matthias Fiedler gave a well-received presentation on AENEAS. Another project on mobility management for older people, the Belgian research project MESsSAGE, was also presented, and the two projects agreed to future exchanges on the topic.

The ECOMM provided an opportunity to disseminate the AENEAS brochure, which is now available in seven languages, and to speak directly to a large number of people. It became clear that many European cities are facing a similar situation: They are challenged by demographic change and a car generation growing old; and they have already invested considerable effort in making their transport systems accessible. However, they are aware that this is still not enough. In other words, there is great interest in exchanges with AENEAS on innovative soft measures such as travel training or mobility management for older people.

The ECOMM 2009 was a well-organised event filled with hospitality and fruitful exchange. The AENEAS team is already looking forward to the ECOMM 2010 in Graz!
