‘Explore Your City’ – The journey is the reward
Using
‘Explore Your City’ as a motto, two Salzburg partners, StadtBus and ZGB (Zentrum
für Generationen und Barrierefreiheit), kicked off their latest AENEAS-related
project on April 29, 2010.
Fold-up guide booklets were developed for Salzburg’s seven intersecting bus
lines. On one hand, the guides encourage older people to remain mobile, and on
the other to use the bus both for running errands and exploring the city.
Another project goal is to entice those who seldom or never use public transport
to try it out. Car drivers might find the new approach an attractive proposition
as well, and possibly learn more about the city into the bargain.
Starting with bus line No. 4 from Liefering to Mayrwies, passengers are informed
about interesting buildings, persons and historical anecdotes, some of which
might even be unfamiliar to locals.
The guide booklets are printed in easily legible 12-point type, and include
walking tips with details about distances, resting places, public toilets and
accessibility.
The booklets are published monthly and introduced on a special bus tour,
accompanied by a tour guide. The bus tour debut proved so popular that there was
standing room only.
Guide booklets are available from StadtBus service centres, and are also mailed
to several organisations for senior citizens.
The next dates of publication and presentation in 2010 are: June 24 and
July 22.
