Salzburg team brings AENEAS to Europe
Throughout
the duration of the AENEAS project, Salzburg AG has been tasked with
transferring and exchanging information and local knowhow. Thanks to productive
cooperation with the ZGB Centre of Generations and Accessibility, a
Salzburg-based NGO, it has been possible to implement training schemes for older
passengers and all public transport drivers to raise safety and security levels
of the city’s E-buses.
The Salzburg-based project team has presented the AENEAS message at 15
international conferences, and has hosted delegations throughout Europe in
places such as Barcelona and Gothenburg. The team has also been involved in
Niches+ project and remains in permanent contact with different European Cities
in order to exchange experiences.
Contact with experts from other cities indicates great demand from Public
Transport providers to introduce concrete measures that are easily transferable
and offer strong benefits both to passengers and providers. Both Vienna and
Krakow, responding to demographic changes in public transportation usage, have
adapted and taken on board the Salzburg team’s Safety and Training Brochure
designed for older passengers.
Due to enormous demand, printed English-language versions of the Passenger and
Driver Training Handbook are no longer available, but the publication is still
available for download from the Aeneas website. The DVD accompanying the
handbook is available in German with English or Spanish subtitles and can be
ordered free of charge from
Angelika Gasteiner.
The success of all these efforts derives from a strategy that targets specific
groups within a wide range of stakeholders, such as city officials, public
transport authorities, vehicle operators, older passengers and children. So now
is the proper time to say ‘thank you’ to all of those who have worked with and
participated in the AENEAS programme.
