Security and accessibility for elderly public-transport passengers in San Sebastián

Safety campaign on buses in San Sebastian
As Donostia-San Sebastián aims to provide equal opportunities to all citizens and visitors, the municipality, supported by the public transport company (CTSS), is improving bus-service conditions by making the vehicle fleet fully accessible to all people, regardless of age and physical condition.

Along the same lines, CTSS and the Willis Iberia Insurance Company, in collaboration with the city of Donostia-San Sebastián, launched the ‘Move Safely by Bus in San Sebastián" campaign to guarantee and improve the security of elderly people during bus trips.

The campaign is focused on older people and provides information and advice related to travelling safely and comfortably by public transport, and an advisory team has been established to facilitate this process.

‘Move Safely by Bus in San Sebastián’ kicked off on February 24, 2011 and will continue until the end of June. The advisory team works on all bus lines operating throughout the city, and hands out up to 200 detailed leaflets per day. At the same time, the team is on hand to provide on-site recommendations and tips to passengers who have any specific concerns or questions.

At the end of each day, the team analyses each bus route in detail to identify security measures that can be taken into account in order to prevent inconveniences and injury, and to implement the most effective solutions.
